Koeksisters is a traditional South African confectionery made of fried dough infused in syrup or honey. Cape Malay koesisters is a version of the dish, which is a fried ball of dough (similar to a doughnut) that is rolled in desiccated coconut and called a koesister.
The name derives from the Dutch word “koek” and “sissen” (to sizzle).
